Vision
A future where healthy, biodiverse ecosystems are connected and thriving, supported by local people and protected for future generations.
Purpose
Biodiversity Legacy exists to:
Support and enhance the connectivity of habitat by building relationships at the local level – facilitating regional connectivity through community capacity building and working together towards collaborative biodiversity outcomes. This is at the heart of what we do.
Increase the area of healthy biodiverse habitat protected for future generations by supporting the establishment of community biolinks (wildlife corridors) that enhance connectivity for plants, animals and people.
Provide pathways for landholders, community groups, First Nations groups, philanthropists, environmental organisations and government agencies to secure land and support its ongoing protection.
Facilitate the transfer of land into safe, community-based ownership structures (environmental not-for-profits) and share knowledge and connections to aid this process.
Mission
Empowering local people and communities to protect, steward and connect lands and waters for biodiversity and conservation through community led, well governed, not-for-profit ownership structures.
We know that local environmental leadership is key to:
Improving health and wellbeing by restoring biodiversity and connecting people with nature.
Helping communities secure properties that are important to them.
Changing the story of ‘land ownership’ – seeing it not as a financial asset, but a cultural and environmental asset for everyone to enjoy and benefit from for generations to come.
Giving everyone the ability to participate in land conservation and creating pathways for young people to get involved.
Combining other sustainable practices with biodiversity protection, such as regenerative agriculture.
