Connecting Wildlife

A community-led effort to safeguard habitat on the Far South Coast of NSW

Connecting Wildlife, Protecting the Future

On the Far South Coast of New South Wales, a passionate community is coming together to protect some of the region’s most precious landscapes. Connecting Wildlife Ltd is a not-for-profit conservation organisation working to safeguard and restore critical habitats around the coastal hamlets of Meringo and Congo – areas renowned for their stunning beaches and proximity to Eurobodalla National Park.

As a Local Landholding Entity under Biodiversity Legacy’s pioneering land protection model, Connecting Wildlife partners with landholders and local groups to create regional biolinks and drive strategic conservation across the region.

The initiative’s first protected property, Ned’s Forest, spans 28 hectares of old-growth forest and rainforest gullies – vital habitat for native species such as Greater Gliders and Powerful Owls. Managed by members of the Meringo community, this thriving sanctuary sets the standard for future projects.

Bordering Ned’s Forest is a network of smaller properties identified for their biodiversity and connectivity values. Through ongoing engagement with landholders, Connecting Wildlife aims to steadily add new titles under a shared governance framework – building a resilient, community-led conservation network and thriving biolinks through Meringo, Congo, and beyond.
