Abi Wills
Head of Science & Environment
Boonwurrung Country, Elwood, VIC
Abi grew up in Ashburton, a small town nestled within Dartmoor National Park in south-west England. From an early age, she knew she wanted to dedicate her life to helping nature.
Abi studied Wildlife Conservation at university before completing a Research Master’s in Biodiversity Management. Her research took her to East Africa, where she studied how people interact with mangrove forests in Madagascar.
She then moved to Tanzania, where she spent six years working with a not-for-profit that supported villages to establish and manage communal forest reserves for the benefit of local communities and the environment — a process known as community-based forest management.
Abi moved to Australia in December 2019 to be with her now-husband. Before joining BioDiversity Legacy in 2024, she spent four years with an environmental not-for-profit that combined local training and employment with practical ecological restoration in East Gippsland.
As Head of Science & Environment, Abi draws on her scientific expertise, practical experience and commitment to meaningful collaboration to support lasting outcomes for people and nature.
