Louise Spensley - People & Purpose Support for BioDiversity Legacy & the EcoLands Collective, Gunaikurnai Country
Louise Spensley’s deep-rooted connection to nature traces back to her upbringing on a farm in the picturesque Ribble Valley in Lancashire, UK. Immersed in the idyllic northern landscape, she spent her youth climbing trees and wandering the fields, fostering a profound appreciation for the outdoors.
As an adult, Louise’s career path led her to work as a freelance events contractor for renowned organisations, including the iconic Glastonbury Festival. Meanwhile, her interests gravitated towards exploring cultural and nature walks across the UK and Europe, further fuelling her passion for the environment.
A pivotal moment came during her travels to Australia, when in 2019 while serving as a Recovery Officer with the Wellington Shire Council, she witnessed the devastation wrought by the Black Summer bushfires in Victoria. This experience spurred Louise to channel her love for nature into a career dedicated to its protection. She embarked on a journey to make a tangible difference.
Drawing on her interdisciplinary background in psychology, Louise recognised the crucial role of human engagement in driving environmental change. This realisation led her to join EcoGipps and the Rendere Trust in 2019 as an administrator. In this capacity, she has played a pivotal role in supporting the establishment of multiple conservation organisations, including Land Covenanters Victoria, the Gippsland Forest Dialogue and Biodiversity Legacy.
Currently the People & Purpose Lead for the EcoLands Collective, Louise provides invaluable support to the BioDiversity Legacy team, delivering HR support and taking a key role in shaping the organisation’s collective vision of fostering environmental stewardship and community empowerment.
